In Vail... with the poochies..

I just finished balling my eyes out to The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. I don't mean to ruin the movie for anyone who hasn't seen it. But ladies - if your men are out of town, this is the perfect chick-flick for you!
I'm currently in Vail with Vegas & Mr. Tripp. I left early this morning with Hikle and his parents. We dropped the pooches off and hung out in Vail Village & LionsHead all day before heading to Billy's Island Grill (aka "Jack's Bistro" by Hikle) for an awesome dinner! It's one of Chisolm's and my favorite places to eat in town. I'm exhausted and the boys are pretty pooped too. Oh yeah! We did take them to the doggy park before dinner.
Chisolm gets up here tomorrow and we're grilling out tomorrow night. Yeh!

Update...

I realized tonight that I hadn't blogged since Saturday and I figured I'd better do something about that before Chaddie removes my link from his blog.

Let's see...

As I had mentioned, I hung out with my friends from h.s. on Saturday. That was super fun! I've talked to Jenni about 15 times a day since then (she's the one that I went to the first grade with). It's cool. It's like we'd never stopped talking.

Sunday was a stay-home-and-clean day. Other than the cleaning part, it was pretty uneventful. I guess the cleaning part was uneventful too.

Monday night I had a private lesson with a dream student. It's always a pleasure when they pick things up right away and are able to execute them. It's so rewarding when they actually leave feeling like I earned my money. Oh yeah! I got a $15 tip too! That was pretty exciting!

After the lesson, I met Hatty for dinner at CPK. Then we stopped for boba and then Barnes & Noble for a bit. That was fun hanging out with Hatty. I don't see him one-on-one too often.

Tuesday night I had my clinic at Table Steaks. It was a decent turnout. I had one new student that was your typical cocky, thinks-he's-better-than-he-is player that made it completely unpleasant for the other students. I'd like to think that beating him a few games earned me some respect and knocked some sense into him but I doubt it.

Chisolm headed up to Vail Tuesday and will be back Thursday night for the weekly Ping Pong tournament at Table Steaks. Oh, sorry! Table Tennis!

Tonight, Kendra came over to "play tennis." She brought her dog, Buddy, to meet Vegas. The four of us walked over to the tennis courts by my house and were ready to play. Unfortunately, when we arrived, we learned that you have to call a number to get the key and schedule a time that you want to use the courts. What!?!?! So, we played with the boys for a bit and then walked about a mile to the nearest Cold Stone Creamery for ice cream. ....mmmmmm.... and then walked back. We had fun! I forget how well we get along. We're gonna sign Vegas and Buddy up for Cause for Paws on August 12th.

Anyway, I've been very busy putting lots and lots of jewelry together. I'm designing an exclusive pool jewelry line for Pooldawg.com so I need to get some styles together to present next week. I'm very excited!

That's all for now!

New Bed & Stuff

My mom got us a new bed for my birthday. I was very excited to get new bedding & stuff. You know you're getting old when you're excited about getting a new bed for your birthday...

Hikle and I picked up this nice chest to hide the dirty laundry.

That's all for now...

Oh! Today I had lunch with my friend Kendra from high school. I hadn't seen her in about 5 years. Tomorrow, I'm meeting my friends DeeDee & Jenni for lunch. DeeDee found me on myspace (which I have recently jumped on the bandwagon of). I haven't seen either one of them since high school or shortly after. I went to the first grade with Jenni. I'm very excited!

You Are Japanese Food

Strange yet delicious.
Contrary to popular belief, you're not always eaten raw.

Typical Pho-Ba Night

Tonight was a typical Pho-Ba night with Hikle.

We tried a new place. I don't remember the name of it, but we both agreed we'd go back again. They had a pretty extensive menu. We even got fortune cookies. Mine read:

"Ambition is the incentive that makes purpose great and achievement greater."

Wow... Pretty deep for a fortune cookie.

I'm gonna go practice for a little bit. I'll be back later.

Blogging from Vail

Got the Comcast cable and internet hooked up today. Now that we have high-speed internet here, I'm able to share that...quickly. Unfortunately, that's all I have to share.

Vail, again...

I'm all movie'd out right now. This weekend, I went to see The Lake House with my friend Julie. It was not at all what I was expecting and surprisingly better than I was expecting. When Bonnie's out of town, I get to hang out with Julie a lot. We had a girls' day of shopping, sushi, and a chick-flick.

Then, last night, I had a hot date with Chisolm and Vegas at the drive-in. About once a year, we pack up Curby w/ lots of pillows & blankets and head to the drive-in when there's two decent movies showing. Last year, we saw Mr. & Mrs. Smith and left after the first 10 minutes of the Longest Yard. That was about all we could stand. Okay, we that was less than one decent movie, but we learned our lesson.

Ironically, this year's selection started with an Adam Sandler movie, Click, and ended with a Jennifer Aniston movie, The Break Up. Click was mildly entertaining. I enjoyed the story line, but didn't find myself laughing as much as I'd like during one of his movies. The Break Up really surprised us. Though, poor Jen was pretty boring in her roll as the pathetic girlfriend, Vince Vaughn REALLY made the movie for us! His one-liners and typical Vince-isms had us crackin' up.

Anyway, we're headed up to Vail again but only for a couple days. We're leaving right after my clinic tonight. The Comcast people are coming tomorrow to install our high speed internet (Sorry, Bill & Karolyn!) so I will have no more excuses for not blogging from Vail. Anyway, we'll be back by Thursday night.

Later!

The Slowskys

I fixed the video from the July 5 Slowskys posting. It should be working now.

Taking the Long Way...

The new Dixie Chicks album, Taking The Long Way, makes me proud and thrilled to be a Dixie Chicks fan. Their lyrics are compelling and inspirational. I downloaded the album the other day and the first track gave me chills and brought tears to my eyes. I called Hikle immediately to share my overwhelming emotions about the album. He completely agreed. He was touched too.

Check out the Dixie Chicks Performance and Interview from Bill Maher's Amazon Fishbowl. It's great! I also LOVE Track #6, "Lullaby".

How can you not be moved by lyrics like these?

The Long Way Around
My friends from high school
Married their high school boyfriends
Moved into houses in the same ZIP codes
Where their parents live
But I, I could never follow
No I, I could never follow
I hit the highway in a pink RV with stars on the ceiling
Lived like a gypsy
Six strong hands on the steering wheel
I've been a long time gone now
Maybe someday, someday I'm gonna settle down
But I've always found my way somehow
By taking the long way
Taking the long way around
Taking the long way
Taking the long way around
I met the queen of whatever
Drank with the Irish and smoked with the hippies
Moved with the shakers
Wouldn't kiss all the asses that they told me to
No I, I could never follow
No I, I could never follow
It's been two long years now
Since the top of the world came crashing down

And I'm getting' it back on the road now
But I'm taking the long way
Taking the long way around
I'm taking the long way
Taking the long way around
I just take my time, I won't lay down
And take the long way around
Well, I fought with a stranger and I met myself
I opened my mouth and I heard myself
It can get pretty lonely when you show yourself
Guess I could have made it easier on myself

But I, I could never follow
No I, I could never follow
Well, I never seem to do it like anybody else
Maybe someday, someday I'm gonna settle down
If you ever want to find me I can still be found
Taking the long way
Taking the long way around
Taking the long way
Taking the long way around

Not Ready to Make Nice
Forgive, sounds good. Forget, I'm not sure I could. They say time heals everything, But I'm still waiting. I'm through, with doubt. There's nothing left for me to figure out. I've paid a price, and i'll keep paying.

I'm not ready to make nice, I'm not ready to back down, I'm still mad as hell and I don't have time to go round and round and round. It's too late to make it right. I probably wouldn't if I could. Cause I'm mad as hell. Can't bring myself to do what it is you think I should.

I know you said, "Why can't you just get over it," it turned my whole world around and I kind of like it. I made by bed, and I sleep like a baby. With no regrets and I don't mind saying, it's a sad sad story that a mother will teach her daughter that she ought to hate a perfect stranger. And how in the world can the words that I said send somebody so over the edge that they'd write me a letter saying that I better shut up and sing or my life will be over.

I'm not ready to make nice, I'm not ready to back down, I'm still mad as hell and I don't have time to go round and round and round. It's too late to make it right. I probably wouldn't if I could. Cause I'm mad as hell. Can't bring myself to do what it is you think I should.

Googles-Gone-Wild

Okay, I know I've already shared a couple of these Googlations with some of you, but just in case you haven't checked them out yet, here's 3 worth trying.
The first one is Gizoogle. C-H-to-tha-izzeck out tha gizoogled SammsPocket.com site. This site translates any site or text into jive. Here, try it for yourself. Just enter the site you wish to translate below (make sure you put the "http://" before the "www"):

Next, we have a fun game called Guess-the-Google. This project was created by Grant Robinson. It's quite amazing, actually. It's sort of like reverse-Google, if you will. There's a series of photos and you try to guess what the searched word was. Don't let it fool you & don't try to get too cutesy. Most of the time, it's your first instinct. Check it out!

This is my best score so far. It's SO tough to break 300.

Lastly, we have GoogleFight. This site is super cute! Take 2 words or phrases and fight them against one another. The word/phrase that gets searched the most wins. Here are a couple examples: Allison Fisher vs. Karen Corr (see below), Samm vs. Chisolm, ibuprofen vs. aspirin, wedding vs. elope, raw vs. cooked, and lastly, Jennifer Aniston vs. Angelina Jolie (WOW! This was a very close match!)

The greatest part is the little fighting stick figures. They have some classic fights, funny fights (i.e., oj simpson vs. homer simpson, ted turner vs. tina turner, etc.), the fights of the month, and the last 20 fights.

Hope you enjoy them! These sites are not endorsed/sponsored by or affiliated with Google in any way.

fireworks

Why are the &*^@%$ kids in my neighborhood STILL lighting fireworks???

Crazy...

The gnarly Gnarls Barkley is really making me dance in my seat.

If you are unfamiliar with this band and their style, you should check them out. It's sort of a funky Ray LaMontagne meets Marvin Gaye on acid. It's great!

I just downloaded the album and was pleasantly surprised by their cover of the Violent Femmes' "Gone Daddy Gone." You may recognize their recent hit "Crazy" from the radio. It's a pretty catchy tune. In fact, the tune was stuck in my head all weekend. Few things suck worse than having a tune stuck in your head when you don't know the words.

"I love it. I'm like a fish."

Bill & Karolyn Slowsky

They are my new favorite couple. I heart them!!! The quote is actually from the more recent commercial where Karolyn talks about how much she loves the new pond in the backyard. However, I couldn't find that clip to download.

Visit The Slowskys' Site where you can read Karolyn's blog, check out their speed bump collection, watch their commercials, send e-cards, and play chess.

They are SO CUTE!!! Karolyn's great!

High School Reunion

I received a phone call from Rose this weekend to inform me that she received a long, forwarded string of emails announcing that since we didn't have an official 10 Year H.S. Reunion that there would be some sort of bbq at somoene's house in August.

Well, rumor has it that the reason there was no 10 year reunion was because our senior year president is/was incarcerated. Poor Rose, because she was always our class president every year up until our senior year. She was the "student body president" senior year but now everyone thinks she's locked up.

As it turned out, Rose searched the CO Dept of Corrections web site and Danny (our senior class pres) was no where to be found, neither as a current inmate or on parole.

Let it be officially noted to anyone from my ghetto high school that Rose was not our senior year class president and is not and has never been arrested or incarcerated. Also, I will not be attending the faux-reunion bbq.

Blogging from Vail

Happy Fourth of July!!!

I always dread getting online in Vail since we have dial-up here. However, since I had the time on my hands, I figured I might as well just do it!

Well, first off, I am happy to write that I was completely wrong about not getting to see Tom T., Jeremy, Dan & Chaddie. It has been a very exciting long-weekend full of so many wonderful suprise visits from all my friends.

Sat-Sun, Julie & Bonnie came for the night. We grilled Saturday night and then went to this somewhat new bar in Avon where Chisolm and Bonnie played Golden Tee all night and Julie and I monopolized the pool tables all night. It's funny. People up here don't really appreciate being beat by girls as much as in Denver. No one wanted to play more than two games when we beat them. We couldn't even pay them to play with us. We offered quarters to this guy after I b&r on him and then Julie almost b&r on him but her conscience got the best of her with one ball left. He said "No way. I won't be playing with you guys anymore." In Denver, most people will usually keep challenging us just to try to beat us. Oh well... I'm not complaining.

On Sunday afternoon, I followed J&B to the Silverthorne Outlet Stores. First stop, Gap. I bought things from three different stores before I finally got something for myself. I was on a mission to find some long, cargo shorts for myself. At our last stop, I finally found them in the boys' department of Ralph Lauren for only $14.95. What a steal!

Anyway, I knew that Juan & Tom T. were headed to Aspen so I called them on our way to the outlet stores. As it turned out, they were at the outlet stores while we were. We decided to stop at the Dillon Dam Brewery for lunch. It was really exciting for me to be able to spent time with all my friends together, especially since I didn't think I was going to get to see Tom T. at all.

Later that night, Chisolm and I went to see Superman Returns. Though I really wasn't looking forward to seeing it, I found it much more enjoyable than I was expecting. It was astonishing what a great Superman Brandon Routh made. His chisled features and perfect build (for this role) made him the absolute right choice for this role. I was really concerned at first because I didn't want to remember anyone but Christopher Reeve as Superman. Well, the movie didn't change any of that. In fact, it was a nice tribute. However, at the end of the movie, there was a dedication to the Reeve family. It didn't appear until after the credits had rolled for a while. What a shame. Most people had left already. They should've put it immediately after the movie ended.

Yesterday was a super fun day! Chaddie & Dan brought Hatty & Jeremy with them to come have lunch with me. We headed over to Vail Village where I got us a bit lost and finally had lunch at Vendetta's Italian Restaurant. We had fun people-watching and staying dry while it rained and stopped and rained and stopped and rained some more. Then, we stopped into a few gift shops and did the touristy thing (which is a treat for me because I never really got to do that since Chisolm always lived here). We had a lot of beer and alcohol left over from when J&B were here so I tried to pawn it off on them before they left but all they had were a bottle of water and a Bud Light. As it started raining again, they took off.

Not long after they left, the doorbell rang and Tom & Nissy arrived. We really had a lot of fun goofin' around last night. This was Chisolm's and my first year missing the Avon Fireworks and the Vail Parade, but we still had a nice time. I can't believe how rainy and poopy the weather's been since we got here on Saturday. It's nice at the moment, as I type, but it makes me not want to leave the house.

I won't give away too much, but there was a lot of mischief with T&N, including pool playing, some hiding under the pool table, stashing of a big snake (the kind that pops out of the tin jar of nuts/mints), dough-popping, Vegas-chasing, warm/soggy creme brulee, and best of all, the highlight of the evening... "The Reaction" (you just have to try it for yourself to truly appreciate it)

Anyway, I think that's it for visitors for us this weekend. Unlike it usually is up here, it's been very eventful. I am looking forward to getting back tomorrow though because our new mattress is arriving Thursday. Also, I bought some of my favorite Estee Lauder Lip Gloss from ebay. I've been to a few E.L. counters but it's been discontinued. I'm very upset about it. Oh well! Hopefully it'll be waiting for me when I get back. That's it for now!

Hope you're all enjoying a fun & safe Independence Day!

01 July 2006

Happy 4th!!!

We're leaving to head up to Vail for a few days. Honestly, I don't know if I'll have the patience to dial-up-blog while I'm there so I may not be back for a few days.

Our friends Julie (aka "July") and Bonnie are coming today and staying tonight. Then Tom & his girlfriend Nissy are coming Mon-Tuesday for the parade and fireworks. Busy weekend of entertaining...

In the meantime, in Denver, Dan & Chad, Jeremy, and Tom T. are here. I don't think I'll get to see them... :(

Alright, have a fun & safe holiday!

Blog ya later!!!
